Would be my preferred way. Enough with physical media. Very progressive of Apple.

Niice. I would assume that they forgo using the 2.0 GHz chip though. Right now, their lineup is pretty solid using two different speeds. Unless the modify the structure of the lineup (as in lower prices), I think it would make sense.

Right or wrong the glass iphone will be forever associated with Antennagate.

Yeah that whole debacle really brought the company to its knees.

Why do I have some weird feeling that they will update the entire product line at WWDC?

If they did, it could work out quite well from a marketing point of view. However, I doubt it will all happen at WWDC. Maybe around September.

    % of cool people...

    95% iOS

    04% Android

    01% the rest

    :p;)

Cool people don't tend to be followers, who do things that other people who they think are cool do, just so that they can feel that they are cool. Unfortunately, it does work in attracting other not so mentally strong people who think they are cool, for fitting a personality.

Problem I have is timing. Why does Apple continue to release the new iPhone / iPad yet we have to wait months afterwards for the iOS update to take advantage of them? Last year it took until November for the original iPad update. Now they're going to offer the iPhone 5 with a several month lag for the iOS 5 upgrade?

Hardware and software have little to do with each other in the large. That is at the low level each new piece of hardware requires it's one special software, but this is low level. The services and functionality rumored to come in iOS 5 are high level abstracted away from the hardware. I would much prefer that Apple took it's time with iOS 5 and actually get it right.

On a side note I could see an iPad 3 in the fall. It wouldn't be a massive upgrade though. As I see a model optimized for 4G coming. There is also the potential for an even lower power variant of A5 coming built on 32/28nm tech. Such a processor would show up in an iPhone first and then move to iPad to replace the big chip there.

I think T-Mobile might fit this bill, at least in the US. I remember seeing a story here earlier in the year where T-Mobile said its vision was aligned with Apple (but not necessarily a partnership; abc article here (http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/ZDM/story?id=2537247)).

Interesting reading that abc article and fits with my impression of T-Mobile in the UK too.

I'm definitely not signing up for a new phone yet! :)

That's not really true of the SZ series either. The SZ ranges from 0.9 to 1.33" or so, and the drive area is in the thin part of it at the front with many things moved up into the thinker area.

If you can find the specs for the different drive mechanisms and compare them to the case designs you should find your answer (note the MBP uses a slot loading drive not a tray system).

It sure does. Quite exciting really. I think all consumer products will get Core 2 Duo (merom + conroe) in September. Although, seeing as Merom is socket compatable with the current line up, I dont think we will see a Conroe in the iMac.

It seems to me that waiting until Paris might be too long. Plus, Merom is just marginally better than Yonah so that's not much of a show for a Keynote, unless there is a enclosure redesign....:D . Well, Conroe in iMacs would be something to show since it is considerably faster than Yonah.

If no redesign, I see it being released...umm...Next Tuesday.

This would leave Paris open for new iPods

are people not expecting merom to go immediately into the macbook as well? i don't see a reason for apple to purposely gimp their best-selling notebook when a merom chip is supposed to cost the same as its yonah counterpart.

That would be nice, but it seems unlikely. Apple seem to consider the black MacBook the small "professional" laptop. Maybe it'll get a descrete GPU though, that would be pretty good, no?

This could happen, too...a new MB with better GPU for the "quasi-pro" users...the rest is OK with the MB, I think...but with backlit keyboard would be even better.

"maintain their good relationship with Apple,"

    Really?
    Toyota sells cars not electronic/computer/idevices.

    What'ever. Glad I bought a Subaru :)

I just went to configure one (makes me happy while I'm waiting) and 1 GIG ram stick was what came with the laptop as the standard option.

But the funniest thing will be when Apple introduces iPhone and achieves a success similar to that of the iPod...fanboys will come in droves to say that phone X has "FM tuners" or phone Y has "GPS blabla", without understanding that it's not the feature set that makes a winner, but integration AND simplicity...on verra!

p.s.: and yep...without carrier agreements, no chance for a good story...most people get new phones WITH subscriptions that reduce such cell phone prices a lot...period.

And yet the entire Android platform generates less revenue in a year than iTunes does in a single quarter.

The iPhone and iOS have never been lost leaders used to gain market share so Apple could have more eye-balls looking at search ads. Android is a trojan horse to expand PPC revenues as rapidly as possible; the public potshots about "open" and "curated" are just a distraction while Google fosters an increasingly fragmented ecosystem that encourages users to treat Android phones like disposables to be replaced with the newest shinny bobble from HTC, Motorolla, Nokia, Samsung every 8 months. The only winners in the Android hardware/OS race are the carriers and the manufacturers who can count on the vast majority of Android users to upgrade two or three times more often than iOS users, each replacement extending their contract and extracting revenue on non upgradable, but incrementally better handsets.

This is good news and very much needed.

Some of us professionals need the upgrade potential of the Mac Pro where we can upgrade our video card and other cards but we sure don't need all the raid card slots and I/O ports on the front and back.

I'd love to see them go with a smaller form factor and less slots for storage and I/O to bring the price down some while keeping the processor options the same. Memory slots...well if the new final cut is using the 16bit architecture, the more the merrier.

Allowing the processor options is the big thing to me in any version of it.

Yes, I want to donate to the Fed (http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-real-housewives-of-wall-street-look-whos-cashing-in-on-the-bailout-20110411?page=1) (so that my money can go lie on a Cayman island beach, since I never will be able to).

Holy crap! You know these things are going on but to read the details is nauseating.

And then there are the bailout deals that make no sense at all. Republicans go mad over spending on health care and school for Mexican illegals. So why aren't they flipping out over the $9.6 billion in loans the Fed made to the Central Bank of Mexico? How do we explain the $2.2 billion in loans that went to the Korea Development Bank, the biggest state bank of South Korea, whose sole purpose is to promote development in South Korea? And at a time when America is borrowing from the Middle East at interest rates of three percent, why did the Fed extend $35 billion in loans to the Arab Banking Corporation of Bahrain at interest rates as low as one quarter of one point?

Even more disturbing, the major stakeholder in the Bahrain bank is none other than the Central Bank of Libya, which owns 59 percent of the operation. In fact, the Bahrain bank just received a special exemption from the U.S. Treasury to prevent its assets from being frozen in accord with economic sanctions. That's right: Muammar Qaddafi received more than 70 loans from the Federal Reserve, along with the Real Housewives of Wall Street.

Perhaps the most irritating facet of all of these transactions is the fact that hundreds of millions of Fed dollars were given out to hedge funds and other investors with addresses in the Cayman Islands. Many of those addresses belong to companies with American affiliations including prominent Wall Street names like Pimco, Blackstone and . . . Christy Mack. Yes, even Waterfall TALF Opportunity is an offshore company. It's one thing for the federal government to look the other way when Wall Street hotshots evade U.S. taxes by registering their investment companies in the Cayman Islands. But subsidizing tax evasion? Giving it a federal bailout?

What the heck is a "golden master candidate"? Google search only hits on this story and a story about iOS 4.0. As far as I know, Apple doesn't use the term. Someone made it up and ran with it.

It makes no sense. There are Release Candidates, and there are Golden Masters.

Well, the fact is that there is one iPhone, and ten Android phones. But anyway, of course this fact is relevant. If I have 10 chances to do something, and only one chance to do something else... how often do you think the 1 in 10 chance is going to come around.... maybe 1 in 10 times?

That's rather flawed reasoning. Unless you actually believe that people buying a smartphone will just pick one randomly. The outcome here isn't random, nor is the chance for every outcome 1/10.

Why all the hate for the jailbreak? Are you guys just too moronic to use it? Any iOS device is infinitely more capable when it is jailbroken. Without some of the apps in the Cydia store, many would say the iphone/ipad/touch is unusable. What is on your lockscreen all of you unjailbroken users? A measly clock? You cant access all your mail, notifications, calendar events, and the weather from your lockscreen? Are you serious? Oh you want to turn off bluetooth? You can't swipe across the bottom of the screen to toggle it? Want integrated google voice? Apple says no. Cydia says **** that, hell yes. I would wager that most of the jailbreak haters dont even know what its capable of nor have ever tried it before. Stay in your cave and watch shadows if you will. The rest of us will experience the real world.

Honestly, I hope Toyota tells Apple to stuff it.

Lame. You can be sure Toyota will capitulate to the Apple strong arm.

Not surprised! Toyota should not take it!

    +++

I love Apple for many reasons, but I also have a hard time with some of their ideology.

    Don't give in Toyota!

Its our devices, and if we want to modify them for our own use, so be it.

Does anyone read the stories before commenting on them anymore?

You didn't even need to click to read the full story.

Toyota had agreed to do so to "maintain their good relationship with Apple," our Velti contact told me on the phone.
