methinks we need someone with some perspective in charge here, so before the crazy wizard gets us all killed for his king's secret quests, whatever they are, I propose we follow the wisdom of my brother Jorah

I would rather that you started leading us since you seem to be much more versed in the rules guiding us :).

Second why do you only save $300 when you opt for the 2Ghz model but the 3Ghz model costs $800 more???

Its relative to the processor you have selected. If you clicked the lower CPU the 3Ghz would be + even more.

One of the main bonuses of a paid service is that it limits the number of users so they can get an email such as joe.blogs@me.com. When services become free, more people sign up until people have to settle for Joe.M.blogs5739@me.com, and then the service looses its upper-market feel.

I would much prefer to apply for a job using the first address for instance.

I don't think price for MB will ever drop, even if they're staying with yonah. It's selling quite well at this price. If they offer yonah and merom in the same system, the price diff will not be a lot, and apple will end up stocking for both yonah and merom, which is not something they will do

More likely is a speed bump to 2.16 Yonah on the MB, Merom on the MBP. 64 bit/power consumption the differentiator for the MBP.

Yonah's price will be going down a lot once Merom is shipping - perhaps we will see a $499 mini again, just a price drop - no change in specs. If Yonah sees a 60% price drop (it's happened lots of times before with intel chips), maybe the low end mini will go duo.

In what would likely be a major surprise to many Apple followers, The Loop's Jim Dalrymple reports (http://www.loopinsight.com/2011/03/28/no-iphone-ipad-or-mac-hardware-coming-at-wwdc/) that Apple is not planning to introduce any new hardware at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, scheduled (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/28/wwdc-2011-set-for-june-6th-10th/) for June 6th through 10th. The conference has been consistently used to introduce new iPhone hardware over the last several years, with the company occasionally introducing other hardware as well.Apple closed the door this morning on any speculation that it would announce new hardware at its Worldwide Developers conference saying it would focus on iOS and Mac OS.

Apple's apparent focus on software in its WWDC announcement backs up what my own sources are saying about the annual conference. That is, expect a software show in not a hardware event. While a focus on software is not unusual for Apple's WWDC promotional materials given its primary positioning as an event for developers, Dalrymple notes that the 2011 materials do nothing to contradict what he has already been hearing from sources: namely, no new hardware this year.

It is also important to note that Dalrymple has not specifically claimed that new iPhone hardware won't be introduced in the same general timeframe as WWDC, merely claiming that any introduction won't occur at the event itself.

One analyst report (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/22/no-fifth-generation-iphone-launch-until-september/) from late last month indicated that a September launch for the fifth-generation iPhone seemed to be the likely scenario. Those rumors were turned into claims of "delays" that were refuted (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/22/rumors-of-iphone-5-ipad-2-delays-called-untrue/) by Dalrymple himself and other sources. The difference may have been in semantics, however, as Dalrymple simply noted at the time that Apple had not deviated from its own internal release schedule plans, but whether those plans called for a typical June release or something more in line with the September rumors or even something else entirely was unknown.

Close but no banana. Any type of tablet needs to have at least 1"-1.5" of border so when you pick it up one handed you don't touch the screen. Also I think Apple would NEED to have grips on a couple sides of the thing. I don't know ab out you guys but picking up my MBP one handed is difficult and sometimes scary.
Also screen size dictates battery life. Granted this picture doesn't depict the screen size but it can't be larger then 12-13" max

12-13" + Intel Core 2 Solo ULV + the entire backside being a battery + a swivel keyboard on the thing + a modified OS X GUI == Apple for the win.

    Just look at the specs:

    1GHz Transmeta Crusoe

    Transmeta sucks....like black hole sucking.

I've always been of the impression, since the time of the pre-release discussions of tablet PCs, that they were a solution looking for a problem.

I would never, ever want to spend my money on an electronic equivalent to a notepad. And I happen to use notepads, BTW. However, if I was taking notes with it (which is NOT at all what I do with the notepads I own), there's no way in the world I'd be writing on it; that would be far too slow.

Why would I want to waste my time learning shorthand (which makes the assumption that TPCs could handle various forms of shorthand) so I could do through writing what I can already do at 70+ WPM via typing. And with typing, it solves the whole problem of handwriting recognition, because there ISN'T ANY.

The TPC market is so highly specialized and so incredibly vertical that I believe it would be nothing more than a distraction for Apple away from their core business and development strengths.

handwriting on a tablet PC is what I define as bandwidth limiting. In order from fastest to slowest.

    Speech
    Typing
    Handwriting

All three can be done a tablet, granted speech to text is still a hit and miss tech, as long as said tablet is a convertible and NOT a slate design. Slate designs, ones that don't have a keyboard are for vertical markets and dedicated devices like multimedia players and the like.

i intend to get mine on a disc rather then a download.

I prefer to have my programs on DVDs. Many of the small programs will work by copying them to the hard drive or a CD or DVD. Larger programs like items from Adobe, MicroSoft & in particular my OS to run my Mac I want on a DVD.

Plus the fact that I do not like the idea of the Apple store selling me any software, Apple or from Third Parties.

    Haters gonna hate.
Just because someone brings up a counterpoint does not make them a hater.

When you use adolescent name calling it kills your image, and destroys your credibility.

A limited vocabulary reveals many things. Anyone can call others names, it doesn't prove a thing.

I'm not against tax increases as long as the country is using it as a last resort.

What constitutes being a "last resort"?

It makes more sense to me to put in clauses that reverse tax increases once a goal has been reached.

Use all the tools in the tool chest to solve the problem.

Wouldn't it be something if Apple sold one of the first unlocked phones from the get-go.

You walk into an Apple store, they have the iPhone in GSM form.. and you get a trade-in discount for your old phone.. the Apple reps pop-out your sim card, transfer your contacts.. and hand you an ipod like phone that has all your old info in it and works with your current plan.

Isn't that what Rosetta is for :p :D

Hardly Apple's fault. Apple has managed to transition all it's apps - Adobe is certainly dragging their collective feet.

Don't blame Apple at all, I just have a hard time getting excited about hardware that can't do what I need it to do. Looking forward to a Universal app from Adobe and Macromedia so I can be excited about Apple's offerings.

    I need:
    8 Internal Bays.
    More PCIe Slots.
    Thunderbolt.
    Keep Dual Optical Bays.
    More Ram Slots.
Built in Fibre Channel (This is a stretch)
That should be a MacPro. What you guys want is that magic headless iMac. I want more, not less.
Working in Video I need the most horsepower possible. 32 Cores would be nice.

At home I can live with my iMac, but editing on it is a pain. A MiniMacPro might work there, but it will still cost 2k and people will bitch.
For work I can justify spending $8,000 on a high powered PRO machine.

I want to know what type of video you are doing because we sure don't need that and we do high end video editing for National Geographic/Discovery/Smithsonian.

Unless you are doing Hollywood stuff, I see no need for half the stuff you listed.

More internals and PCIE slots? For what? Almost all of our clients are delivering tapeless now and on externals. Dual optical bays? Seriously? Fibre is a must if you are in a post house.

Please leave the dual super drives Apple! We pros still need those to author DVDs!

Seriously? We also do full DVD high end hollywood type authoring at my facility (have been for 10+ Years) and Blu-Ray authoring and we have no need for internal optical super drives.

You guys seriously need to unhinge yourselves from those internal drives...lol :)

Pushing the iPhone 5, along with iOS 5, to the fall really wouldn't surprise me at all. In fact it would seem a little weird if Apple were to finally release a white iPhone 4 and then release an iPhone 5 a month or two later... even if they have constantly kept "last years" model around at a discount previously. Maybe the white iPhone will be and iPhone 5...

The more probable result is that the white iPhone 4 will simply never be.

By this time, Foxconn is most likely shifting production of the iPhone 4 for the $99 price point and gearing up to produce lots of iPhone 5s for the summer.

I'm starting to wonder if a Iphone 5 is even going to come out this year i mean with the Verizon IPhone launched in February "kinda close to June - July IMO" so they might wait tell june of next year where we get AT&T and a Verizon IPhone upgrades.

Most of the iPhone's sales come from outside the United States, where GSM is the standard. Apple can't afford to lag behind other companies in those international markets so they will most likely not slip on shipping the iPhone 5 to much later than the previous models' date.

Globalization is a race to the bottom, and nobody seems to understand that while the 3rd world rises up, the 1st world inevitably must slide down.

You left out a crucial fact.

The 1st world may slide down but not the top 0.5% of the 1st world. In fact the wealth of top 0.5% in the 1st world will keep doubling every few years because of the rise of the 3rd world.

It happens because of more demand (from 3rd world) for goods made by the companies the top 0.5% in 1st world own while the cost for making them will stay low, thanks to outsourcing manufacturing (and increasingly service industry) to the 3rd world.

Awesome deal I must say, for those in the top 0.5% in the 1st world.

Do people really think were going to get Merom macbook pros at paris? I was thinkg we would see it on a tuesday before paris.

I think Paris would be a logical time to unveil a new product. That being said, this is "just an upgrade", not a new product (it's not like the MacBooks are moving to Intel for the first time), so perhaps they will receive an update on "any given Tuesday" instead, and Paris will be reserved for something new, for instance a new full-screen touchless iPod. ;)

I simply disregard comments that have to do with religion basically.

Silence is acquiescence, very well stated by Pastor Martin Niemller:

First they came for the communists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
    and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

    Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came

I don't disregard comments that try to push a particular view on spirituality, gender identity/expression, or other personal and civil rights issues. Sometimes the comments are appropriate, but other times they are not. In my opinion if they're not, I'll say so.

iPad 2 not being retina is not a good example when talking about desktops. First, there are no battery issues to deal with for a desktop. Second, there heat issues but less so since the screen isn't held in your hand. And third, you can raise costs if you are talking about a high end screen to attach to your high end Mac Pro. Apple can target the "money is no object crowd" with some of its offerings. Apple sells $1,000 displays already and I'm not sure that they couldn't sell a $2,000 retina level display. I'd consider it. Yeah it would be a lot of money but I would expect the screen to last five years and I use my computer everyday. Would I spend about a dollar a day to have retina on a 27" screen? I'd at least consider it.

That said, I don't know if the technology is there yet. Could a current Mac Pro run a retina screen without a hiccup? I'd still 60 FPS on Crysis. :p
Interestingly enough, there should be no more power drain nor heat produced on an iPad with a retina display than there is without.

I also remember reading an article a while ago that pinned a 2048x1536 retina display for the iPad at ~3x the current iPad's display price. Although, I'm not sure if it was real or not, I think it was though.

I would love a video streaming device. I use my airport express almost every day for streaming iTunes to my stereo, I'd love to be able to do the same with movies.

I have to believe that video quality for iMovie Store movies will be much improved over the current video offerings. Hopefully TV shows will get the same treatment.

Lastly, let me just throw my favorite (long-shot) rumor into the mix... Mac Pro Cube!!

jokes aside, this is terrible. too long of a wait.
and apple better not skimp my 4th gen touch on features, i want FULL iOS 5 support.

Every time Apple has demoed a new version of iOS it has been on the current hardware prior to the release of new hardware.
